Guitar Girl

The book I'm reading is called Guitar Girl. It is basically about a girl who doesn't fit in with anyone, but has three friends. They all feel like outsiders, and want to fit in. They try numerous things to get attention. They finally start a band. Molly (the main charecter) plays the guitar. Jane, and Tara are also part of the band. A guy notices them, and takes over the band his name is Dean. Dean ends up falling in love with Molly supposedly. Then he cheats on her with this girl they nick named hobiscut, because they think shes sort of....trashy. I would recomend this book for girls, mostly junior high girls. One thing I don't like about this book is that things change, and happen way to fast.

The Return of the Indian

This book is about a boy called Omri. In the first book Omri had his birthday and for a gift his brother gave him a medicine cabinet. His mom gave him a special key that fit the key hole on the cupboard. In this one Omri moved to a different street and his friend move to a different house. I will finish this later on a comment because my computer is going to die. :(

Star Girl - Jerry Spinelli

I'm reading Star Girl I think its an alright book. I like it because it remembers me of me. She is way different from everybody else. She is new at Mica High School. Everybody thinks she really really weird because she does thing different. Everyday their is a birthday she sings to that person in the lunch room at lunch. She wears long dresses to school or long skirts.
I can't remember what the persons names is but its from his veiw of everything. He is in this club with Kevin his best friend. Its called the The Hot Seat. Its for school its like a T.V. show for school. They talk about whats going on and who new and whats new. The main charcter didn't want to have her on the show but no one new why. Kevin aways wanted her on the show because she was starting to get popular and she became a cheerleader. Finally the main charcter said lets do it. They put her on the show and every body liked her, but before that night.
She went to a game because she was cheerleading and they wee starting to lose. So she left. Everybody was wondering what was going on. after the game everybody went to the bus and found her talking to the buc driver. they asked her why she didn't stay. She said she lefted because she thought they were losing because of her. One of the cheerleaders said the for go something and asked her if she would get it for her. She went to go get it. The cheerleaders said everybody was on and left her there.

Rainbow Boys by Alex Sanchez.

I started this book a few weeks ago. It's about these three boys Jason, Nelson, and Kyle. Kyle and Nelson already know that they are gay. Jason isn't really sure yet, because he doesn't understand how he could be gay because he is dating the prettiest girl in school. But Jason went to a gay meeting which he saw Kyle and Nelson at, and he tried to play it off like he didn't mean to come but Kyle and Nelson new that he was lying.
The hardest part for Kyle is coming out to his mom and dad. He wants to tell them but he is scared that his dad wont like it. Him and his dad already don't have a very good relationship and he doesn't want to make it worse.
Nelson is starting to fall for Kyle, and everyone thinks he is in love with him, but Kyle is not interest in him at all because he just sees him as his best friend. Nelson is having a hard time with being friends with Kyle because Kyle likes Jason, and he hates hearing him talk about him Jason all the time.
I think people that are okay with other people liking the same sex would really like this book. I think it is very interesting to hear what they go through on a daily bases, I never really new how hard it was for people to come out to there parents until I started reading this book.
I think you should read it. Its a very good book!

The Last Chance Texaco By: Brent Hartinger

I just finished this book the other day and it's about a girl named Lucy who lost her parents in a car wreck three years ago and has been sent to many group homes since her parents died. She has done some bad things like got addicted to Oxies and got in fights. This is her last chance and if she gets in trouble she gets sent to a worse group home. At her new group home she goes to school for the first time and gets in a fight with a kid named Nate Brandon who called her a groupie because she goes to a group home. Lucy punched him in the face and got sent to the office but the principal wanted her expelled but her consuler saved her and she had to pick up trash with Nate for the next month.

Once Lucy and Nate get to know each other they start to like each other. One night a car got set on fire and Kindle Home got blamed for it because they were by the car and people say they are all bad kids. Lucy and Nate come up with a plan to record the person who is doing this so Kindle Home don't get shut down. One night when they were out recording they heard someonce pooring gas on a car and so they ran over to the car and the cop came up and saw Nate and busted him for it. Once Nate got out of detention center they caught Yolanda, Lucy's roomate doing the car fires. Yolanda was having dreams and was setting the cars on fire because he parents were like Lucy had her parents die to a car accident.

The Outsiders

Ponyboy is walking home one afternoon after watching a Paul Newman film, and his mind starts to wander. He thinks about how he wants Paul Newman’s good looks, though he likes his own greaser look. He also thinks that, although he likes to watch movies alone, he wishes he had company for the walk home.Ponyboy steps back from his story to explain that walking alone is unsafe for greasers, the East Side gang of friends to which he belongs. When they walk by themselves, greasers attract the harassment of Socials, or Socs, the rich West Side crowd. Ponyboy says that greasers are poorer and wilder than the Socs, whom the newspapers condemn one day for throwing parties and praise the next day for good citizenship. Greasers wear their hair long and put grease in it. They dress tough, steal, and get into gang fights. They often carry switchblades, mainly to help them stand their ground against the Socs.

Darkness Before Dawn

I was reading this book the other day but now I'm done, but its about a girl in high school that lost her boyfriend to a car accident. She wants to start over and find a new boyfriend but there is no one there to help her get back on her feet, until her mom told her to go to the school party. She met a guy named B.J. She thought that he wasn't the one until, he started to treat her great. They ended up getting together and she believed he was the one.

I think this book is mainly for teenagers.
This is one of the series from Sharon M. Draper, she has Forged by Fire, and Tears of a Tiger

Among the Brave by Margaret Peterson Haddix

My book is about a kid name Luke Garner. He is a third child, so his I.D. name Lee Grant. Luke went home for the holidays to see his fake parents. While he was there it was going great until the day of the party and Lee's parents die. Luke and his friends leave to go see the close friend, Mr. Talbot. The driver drop off Luke at his real house to see his real family. The driver kept driving on till they got to Mr. Talbot's house. Trey got out of the car to see him, but when Mr. Talbot answer the door. He told Trey to go away to keep him safe. Trey then hid under a table and got scared and didn't know what to do. A few minutes later the population police took Mr. Talbot away. Trey went inside the house and found Mrs. Talbot. Mrs. Talbot and Trey turn the t.v. on and see that the population police is ruling their country. Mrs. Talbot left and Trey stayed there. Even though Mrs. Talbot told him not to. Trey finally left because he saw Smits Lee brother. So, Trey went over there to Luke's house to talk Smits about where Luke is. Luke was taken away by the population police. Trey now has to save Luke before the population police kill him.
The book has a good plot and very interest in some parts. The things that need to be improve are that some parts are kinda boring and have no point in the book.
This is a very good book that i think any age would like! :)

Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

I started read Last Song over Thanksgiving break because Mrs. Althoff recommended it to me. It's about a teenage girl, Ronnie, who have been living with her mom and younger brother in New York City. Ronnie is an amazing piano player, but for some reason has quit playing. The book hasn't mentioned why yet. Ronnie's parents are divorced and at the beginning of the book, Ronnie and her brother are on their way to the east coast to spend the summer with their dad, who Ronnie hasn't spoken to in 3 years. Her dad is also an accomplished piano player, so I'm thinking something happened with their relationship that made her not talk to her dad for so long and to quit playing the piano.
Ronnie first meets these group of trouble-maker kids. Marcus is kind-of creepy and likes Ronnie, but she doesn't like him at all. Marcus's girlfriend, Blaze, is jealous and sets Ronnie up to make it look like Ronnie stole some cd's from a store. So, now, Ronnie is facing legal charges.
In the meantime, she's met Will, who she is starting to really like. I think this book is mainly directed at teenage audiences, but obviously I'm reading and Mrs. Althoff did too, so adults will like it too. Sparks wrote The Notebook and A Walk to Remember, both books that were made into well-known movies.
It's a very easy to read book, and it's nice to have something like to read before I go to bed, just to take my mind off stressful things...like school!

Pritties- Scott Westerfeld

My book is about this girl named Tally and she was once in this group called the smoke they would sneak out and go hang out and no one would know. Tally turned 16 and when the uglies turn 16 they go get a surgery that would turn them pretty. I think this book is mainly for girls but boys can read it to if they really want to. I really like this book because it explains to me that you shouldn't care what you look like as long as everyone else likes you for you. Thats the point that the book gets across to me it could be different from someone else.

To Kill a Mockingbird By: Harper Lee

The trial continues, with the whole town glued to the proceedings. Mayella, who testifies next, is a reasonably clean by the Ewells standards and obviously terrified nineteen year old girl. She says that she called Tom Robinson inside the fence that evening and offered him a nickel to break up a dresser for her, and that once he got inside the house he grabbed her and took advantage of her. In Atticus’s cross examination, Mayella reveals that her life consists of seven unhelpful siblings, a drunken father, and no friends.

Questions, 12-14

Name your book and the author.
Write a brief summary and review of your book. What are some good things about it? What are some things that could be improved? What type of person would enjoy reading your book?
Have your post, along with a comment on someone else's post completed by Friday, Dec. 18.

Welcome!

Your responsibility as a member of the Strategic Literature class and a participant of this blog is to make one post per week regarding your book. You must write 2-3 good paragraphs, or 10-15 sentences. Each week I will post a few questions for you to respond to and to get you thinking about the book you are reading. You are to respond to those questions, and anything else you'd like to say ABOUT YOUR BOOK. This is a professional blog in which we should be proud to show other classes, other teachers, administrators, and our parents. Please do not write as if you are emailing or texting your friends. That IS NOT the purpose of this blog. I would like for us to share thoughtful, reflective comments on the individual books we are all reading.
In addition to the one posting about your book, you are also to make a comment about someone else's post. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions, share views if you've already read the book, give your input about your classmate's ideas, etc.
By each Friday, you are to have one posting and one comment to receive full credit.
Please post respectfully, appropriately and only about books we are reading in class.
Thanks!
